The Open Air Theatre Called Venice – ITALY

Share With Your Friends

Based on the Adriatic Sea ” Venice” is a dream destination of world citizens.

Though many term it as the most hyped tourist destination, the internet is flooded with

” Venice” and sitting at home you know everything about Venice. Italy

..Not to forget OO7 too, fell prey and shot the most adrenaline-rushing scene in the movie ” CASINO ROYALE” Death in Venice –The sinking PALAZZO.

Venice Through My Eyes

The narrow alleys, red-tiled roofs, artistically built houses, and the ” SEA” make Venice a romantic city.

Famously called the city on canals frequented by many Gondalas, the gondolier ” Singing Bella CIAO..the tourist feels on cloud nine.

Bidding goodbye to Switzerland and entering Italy

” Euro Rail”:-  Zurich to Venice is a five-hour drive with an astounding 120CHF ticket, but the ride is worth every penny. Some stunning vistas unfold as we say goodbye to Switzerland and enter ITALY. A stark change in landscape leaves us a little sad.

Venice Italy Open-Air Theatre

Goof up:  Venezia train station is just across the waterways to take water taxis popularly known as the ” Vaporettos”.

From the main city of Venice, we must go to the island for the major attractions, and our stay is booked at a B & B  located at  St.Marc Square.

This being a fortnight-long trip we are loaded with luggage, seeing the waterways across our relief knows no bounds but agh and oh..the nearest waterways are closed for a scheduled  “Rowing National championship “.

The  Grand Canal is lined up with old Venetian buildings. While we absorb all we are in for a shock, as we prepare to drag our luggage over the ” The Ponte della Costituzione -Constitution Bridge” It is indeed a nightmare.

As the rowers prepare themselves with their canoes, to compete in making a pretty sight, Ferrying the huge bags over the bridge for the next ferry station makes us ..croon and crimp …

The Adriatic sea waves unaware of the trauma are happily dancing on the rhythmic wind as we take the beauty in, this city with cobbled streets gives our trolley bags some real-time.

TIP: When you arrive in Venice main city, leave the heavy luggage in lockers on a payable basis and carry small travel bags or backpacks to the ” Venetian Island”

The cluster of Venice islands is connected by beautiful bridges and traveling to them is by water taxis. We had missed reading an Important EMAIL about the above TIP and made, quite a sight of ourselves ..a cute sight, something like ” EMILY IN PARIS” Synonym.

” Vaporettos Venezia “.

Finally, we embark on a ferry. After a beautiful journey of 45min, through the Adriatic sea lined up with historic buildings, pit stops at many of the 126 islands out on its way, before it drops us at @st Marc square, our B & B for the next 3 days.

The mistake of not dropping out bags at Venetian main city weighs heavy as we walk almost a kilometer and a half with the screeching trolley bags.

Locanda – a very famous name in this part of Venice, and yet our B & B is difficult to locate.” SIRI” is our guide and takes us through the winding alleys ..had it not been for her our B & B would been have another pain in the neck.

TIP: Bread and Breakfast

From all the Bread & Breakfast where we stayed, our common observation was that the owners of these B & B had converted their older residences by renovating them and moved to the newer localities of the City.

The interiors are very well done, but the basic building structures remain the same aged and old. Narrow staircases and no lift. Suggest that if you wish to stay pocket-friendly, travel light and be ready for small compromises. Our stay was right in the city center, covering almost all the Sightseeing and glamour of Venice.

All bookings happen via apps like B & B, Booking.com, etc. You often need help finding the front desk executive, you have to follow the instructions on the door that welcomes you.

If you are a traveler that needs human intervention, then hotels are a good choice.

Porters: With our huge luggage,  B& B without a lift, and our room on the 4th floor, what surprised us was the availability of a porter. This Venetian Island has some macho porters but are expensive.

But then we give ourselves a little luxurious treat. So this adventure goof up made a hole in our pockets, but we are on vacation and we have to learn from our mistakes.

Internet: The most essential commodity while traveling abroad is the internet without which in the techno-savvy world you are lost.

Reaching LOCANDA was sensational.. once settled down we are looking for an evening TEA.

“ Cafes at the St. Marc Square”

At St Marc sq. music is floating in the air, the dusk is about to settle, and the evening has just started blooming with tourists.

The piano and the trumpet are synchronized, and the tourists are grooving to the music. Romance is in the air as rightly said Venice is a romantic city.

This beautiful TEA House in the St. Marc. Square is serving some refreshing brews …and I dare to occupy a vacant chair.

A smartly dressed waiter comes with a menu, in “French’. He reads it out and asks me to choose, and I do!

A lovely coffee- he nods his head…I very politely say Grazie ..but he taps his finger on a line below at the end of the menu card, which says sitting tax of 8CHF…

I continue with the order, but the coffee is no longer lovely, and the music is a bit too harsh ..Naah that’s a joke in a “Renaissance city nothing can be Boring”…

TIP: When in Italy enjoy like an Italian ..give yourself a break and if not, Cautious about the same.

History

Each island is separated from the other by the Adiatric sea water & canals.

Venice is linked to other islands with approx 438 bridges.

It is also called a “ Venetian Lagoon “ because of the alluvial silt deposits from the SEA.
