The road trip continues, this time to Vibrant Gujarat. We finally paid heed to the advertisement “Kuch din toh Gujariye Gujrat mein.” From the vast state, we zero in on the ancient history of the INDUS Valley Civilization.

The plan is to drive to Lothal, 80 km from Ahmedabad. We three idiots, as we fondly call ourselves, begin our journey dressed in summer dresses and eye-catching but protective hats, as the October sun is at its peak.

The Fafda Jalebi Break

Lothal

Having skipped breakfast, we take a quick Pit stop at a roadside shack to be welcomed by the Owner, attired in the local dress with a colorful headgear.

He offered the best on his menu, the freshly fried savory called the (Fafada) to be relished with fried green chilies sprinkled with salt & the mouthwatering sugar syrup dripping Jalebis. We couldn’t resist having a quick word & a snap with him

With no count of how much we ate, the Caped idiots were en route to Lothal, known for its Excavation of the INDUS valley Civilization, frequented by history & heritage lovers.

Walk through the INDUS VALLEY CIVILIZATION

The landscape full of tall grass in green & yellow seemed to have hidden these historical sights. Anticipation at its height, we first visited the Museum, which hosts around 800 findings from the excavation,n stones, jewels, utensils, equipment & much more, a testimony to the era bygone.

The walk through the manicured gardens maintained by the archeological department. & further into the site, the place has its own atmosphere.

The Time Travel

Lothal

Taking all 3 of us into a world some 2000 years ago. back. Each of us was in a different time zone as I saw the bead factory, the clatter of the artisan & chatter of the merchants. Far away, I could see the handmade boat with sail ready to embark on a journey with the merchandise to a faraway land.

The family settlements with Civic amenities are well defined and designed like the potable well, underground drains, baths, and cooking area.

The most fascinating though was the dockyard or the tank, very scientifically made to withstand the water flow, force and thrust. The town with rich trade with faraway land was well-to-do and self-sufficient. It is believed that it was the world’s earliest made Dock connecting the city to an old course of the Sabarmati River. Lothal was a vital & thriving trade Centre in ancient times.

AFTER THOUGHTS

Lothal

As l rest on a huge stone under a tree, storing in my memory all that I saw and see eyes as far as l can, I am brought back to the present to think & wonder about the systems in place during that era.

As I am overwhelmed with feelings for the people, I wonder about the scientific Knowledge, thoughtfulness, resourcefulness, mindfulness, belonging to the community & family Bonding they had, which made the base for the upcoming Generations.

Precious Values & Technology

Today we are blessed with Manpower, Machinery & technology, all seems to be pretty easy, distances on all platforms are covered digitally, but what they had without the technology was much more precious. We, on the other hand, have lost much of our values & majorly Humanity.

Lothal was captivating, we had loads to share & talk about as each one of us came with much-gained knowledge about the rich cultural history & advanced techniques they had, which we now boast about. Life is too short & the world is too wide, so travel as much as you can.
